The Queen of Inspirational Soul

BIOGRAPHY
Two-time GRAMMY® Award winner Ann Nesby is one of the defining voices of inspirational soul. For more than three decades, she has moved across gospel, R&B, soul, dance, film, television, stage, and cultural storytelling with unmistakable power, grace, and emotional authority.
Nesby first rose to prominence as the powerhouse lead vocalist of Sounds of Blackness, whose timeless songs including “Optimistic” and “The Pressure” helped shape inspirational R&B. As a solo artist, she has earned six additional GRAMMY® nominations and built a catalog that bridges gospel, R&B, soul, and dance, collaborating with icons including Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Patti LaBelle, and Al Green.
In 2025, Nesby returned with ANNiversary, her first studio album in over a decade. Released April 11, 2025, the album blends grown-folks R&B, modern soul, and the emotional storytelling that has defined her career. Its standout singles include “My Man,” which reached No. 29 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, “Let’s Stay Together” featuring Calvin Richardson, and “Who.”
Nesby’s current season also includes her featured performance on “Reconsider Baby” with Cam Anthony for Lucille Talks Back 50th Anniversary, an all-star tribute album honoring B.B. King’s 1975 recording Lucille Talks Back. She is also preparing a new audiovisual release commemorating the 30th anniversary of her debut solo album, I’m Here For You, featuring concert footage from the Grand Soul Supreme Festival in Weissenhäuser Strand, Germany with the Grand Soul Supreme Orchestra.
Her work extends beyond music. Nesby toured in TINA: The Tina Turner Musical, held a recurring role on Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar, appeared in Atlanta, The Fighting Temptations, and The Ms. Pat Show, and is starring in Tyler Perry’s The Gospel of Christmas.
In 2025, Nesby also served as executive producer and narrator of CIRILO, A Legacy Untold, an award-winning, Oscar-qualified documentary short nominated at the 57th NAACP Image Awards.
An honorary member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Ann Nesby continues to move generations with a voice and vision that transcend genres. With ANNiversary and her current work across music, film, and television, she proves that classic soul does not age. It deepens.
